On this blessed day of 19 Bashans 1742, we gather to celebrate the glorious feast of Pascha, the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Easter liturgy of the Coptic Church is a treasure trove of spiritual riches, where we encounter the living Christ in the midst of our worship.

The liturgy begins with the solemn procession, where the priest carries the cross, symbolizing the triumphal entry of Christ into the heavenly Jerusalem. We sing the hymn of the resurrection, and our hearts are filled with joy, our spirits lifted up to heaven.

The prayers of the liturgy are replete with references to the resurrection of Christ, reminding us of the victory of life over death, of light over darkness. We are called to participate in this victory, to rise with Christ from the depths of sin and death, and to walk in the newness of life, as St. Paul writes in Romans 6:4, 'We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.'

In the words of our beloved Pope Shenouda III, the resurrection of Christ is not just a historical event, but a living reality that transforms our lives. We celebrate the Easter liturgy, and we are invited to experience this transformation, to be renewed in our faith, and to be filled with the joy of Pascha.

We receive the Holy Communion, and we are united with Christ in his resurrection, becoming partakers of his divine life. The liturgy becomes a foretaste of the heavenly banquet, where we feast on the body and blood of Christ, and we are filled with the joy and the peace that surpass all understanding, as our Lord Jesus Christ promises in John 14:27, 'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.'

The Easter liturgy of the Coptic Church is a celebration of the joy of Pascha, a joy that is not limited to a single day or a single season, but is a perpetual reality that fills our lives with meaning and purpose. This joy stays with us, and we are sent forth to proclaim the good news of the resurrection to a world that desperately needs it.

The great Father of the Church, St. Athanasius, once said, 'The resurrection of Christ is the guarantee of our own resurrection.' May we hold fast to this guarantee, and may we live in the joy and the hope of Pascha, now and forever.

May the joy of Pascha fill our hearts and our lives, and may we always walk in the light of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
